Finishing requirements for precision parts are not only important for cosmetic reasons but can be critical to the component’s application. Typically, these applications require a change to the surface properties of the machined component compared to the bulk materials properties, such as making a conductive material insulating, improving its corrosion or wear resistance, improving sealing surfaces, or changing the reflectance or transparency of the part.
